Travel search engine Hipmunk will go offline at the end of the month, after a near ten-year run, but booked plans won’t be affected…
Hipmunk debuted on the web in 2010, touted as a simplified and improved travel search engine. It then released a mobile app for Android not long thereafter. And, it did bring new features to the niche, with Google and others copying its innovations.
Hipmunk Travel Search Engine to Shut Down on January 23rd 2020
Travel search site Hipmunk hit the internet about ten years ago. Now, it’s set to shut down or “retire” on the 23rd of this month. The company was acquired by SAP Concur in 2016 but will cease operation in the coming weeks.
Since Hipmunk is a travel search engine for flights, rental cars, and hotel accommodations, and is not a booking site, anyone with already booked plans won’t be affected by the shut down.
The company wrote the following just the other day:
“…we have important news to share. After nine years of being a travel search innovator, Hipmunk is being retired. The current plan is to stop supporting the product on Jan. 23, 2020. At that time, the Hipmunk website and app will no longer be available for use.”
