Google now lets users switch off auto-play videos inside the Google Play Store, with just a few easy steps; here’s how to do it…
Auto-play videos are a bane of the internet. Suddenly and nosily interrupting routine browsing, the media often plays at the loudest possible volume and sometimes takes up a good portion of the screen.
Google Now Allows People to Shut Off Auto-Play Videos in the Google Play Store
Back in September of last year, Google first announced allowing auto-play videos in its Play Store. This mostly applied to the games section of the platform but isn’t necessarily restricted to that area alone. (For instance, auto-play videos also appear in the “Game spotlight” and ” Suggested for you” carousel.)
Of course, not everyone was thrilled with that decision. So, the search giant is giving its users the option to switch off those Play Store auto-play videos, with just a few simple steps.
How to Disable Google Play Store Auto-Play Videos
To shut off those Google Play Store auto-play videos, all that’s needed is the latest version of the app. How to turn off Google Play Store auto-play videos:
- Update to the newest version of the Google Play Store app.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap on the hamburger menu (the three horizontal lines in the upper left).
- Go to “Settings.”
- Tap “Auto-play videos.”
- Select “Don’t auto-play videos.”
It’s also possible to only allow auto-play videos over WiFi or to simply let them play at any time.
