It’s now possible to turn on the new Facebook desktop dark theme, after the social network completed a lengthy testing process…
During it’s annual F8 Developer’s conference in April of last year, Facebook teased a new desktop dark mode experience. Thereafter, the company began experimenting with its dark theme for the web, but only provided access to a limited group of users. Recently, it started to expand its reach. And now, the new Facebook dark theme option is rolling out to everyone.
[Update — 28 May 2020] Facebook continues to roll out its dark theme for desktop, so the option is not yet available to everyone.
How to Enable Facebook Desktop Dark Mode
All that’s needed to enable the new Facebook desktop dark mode is an internet connection, an up-to-date web browser, and an active account. (Please note, it’s rolling out now, so not everyone will see the option to switch to the new Facebook dark theme right away. Simply try another time if it doesn’t appear in the drop down menu.)
How to Turn On Facebook Desktop Dark Theme
To switch to the new Facebook desktop dark mode, it’s only necessary to complete a few simple steps. Here’s how to enable the Facebook desktop dark theme:
- Open a desktop web browser.
- Go to Facebook.com and sign into an active account.
- Click on the down arrow at the top right.
- Scroll down and select “Switch to new Facebook.”
- Click “Dark” on the popup.
- Click “Get Started.”
That’s all. Turning on the desktop Facebook dark theme should stay enabled, even after existing a browsing session and/or logging out of the social site.
