Facebook Now Lets Users Disable its Annoying Notifications and Customize the Shortcut Bar

It’s not possible to disable Facebook notifications and to customize the shortcut bar, too, in just a few, simple steps for a better experience…

Facebook is always abuzz with activity. Its constant notifications are there as a way to keep user engaged with the social network. But, frequency is a big turn off for many people who’d rather not be bothered day and night. Thankfully, the company has confirmed it’s about to give users more control.

How to Turn Off Facebook Notifications and Customize the Shortcut Bar

The new ability to disable Facebook notifications and customize the shortcut bar is currently rolling out to iOS (with Android to follow soon). It allows users to gain more control over the mobile apps.

But, just how is this done? Well, it turns out, it’s a very simple procedure. Here’s how to turn off Facebook notifications:

  1. Update to the latest version of the Facebook mobile app.
  2. Open the app and then long-press on the notifications icon.
  3. Choose to silence notifications.

To customize the shortcut bar, update to the most recent version of the app. Then, open Facebook and long-press on a shortcut button to remove it.

A spokesperson for Facebook tells Engadget:

“We are rolling out navigation bar controls to make it easier for people to connect with the things they like and control the notifications they get within the Facebook app.”
