Windows 7 entered its end-of-life phase over a year ago on January 14th, 2020, but people can switch to Windows 10 at no cost whatsoever…
Tuesday, January 14th 2020, marked the beginning of the end for Windows 7. On that day, the outdated operating system transitioned from its normal state into its impending and total deprecation. What’s more, Microsoft’s original free offer to upgrade officially expired years ago. So, it seems like there’s no real hope to switch over without having to fork over $120 for an entirely new license. But, there is a way to upgrade for free.
How to Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for Free
Someone claiming to work for Microsoft revealed on Reddit that there’s a way to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 at no cost. (Although this seems a bit incredulous, the fact that Microsoft is aware of the workaround but has not shut it down makes it far more plausible that it works — perhaps to prevent people from switching to Linux or Apple and/or to prevent security incidents on Windows 7.)
To upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 free, just use the Windows Media Creation Tool. Once there, users can simply enter their Windows 7 license key (or Windows 8 license key) and that should upgrade them to Windows 10 for free.
