Instagram is making some notable changes to its home screen, the first refresh in years, which includes new and prominent Reels and Shop tabs…
For the first time in years, Instagram is giving its home screen a digital makeover. It’s a major design change that will bring new Reels and Shop tabs to the UI. The company says it will better convey the site’s priorities and give users quicker access to the most popular destinations on the platform. Meanwhile, the Likes and Create tabs will move over to the top right-hand corner, beside the direct messages inbox.
Instagram Home Screen Redesign Announced
The new Reels button will immediate take users right to the short-form video section, a tool that’s very similar to TikTok. The Shop tab will surface personalized recommendations, along with editors’ picks, shoppable videos, as well as new product collections. The head of Instagram Adam Mosseri wrote in a blog post:
“We don’t take these changes lightly – we haven’t updated Instagram’s home screen in a big way for quite a while. But how people create and enjoy culture has changed, and the biggest risk to Instagram is not that we change too fast, but that we don’t change and become irrelevant. We’re excited about the new design and believe it gives the app a much-needed refresh, while staying true to our core value of simplicity.”
