Borrowing a feature from Snapchat, Instagram Location Stories and Hashtag Stories, come to the native Android and iOS apps, under the Explore tab…
Starting today, Instagram Location Stories and Instagram Hashtag Stories arrive on the native mobile app. Taking a page from rival Snapchat, these new features give Instagram users more options to find interesting content.
Instagram Location Stories, Hashtag Stories, Now in the Explore Tab
Last week, TechCrunch reported Location Stories were in testing on Instagram. But now, it appears the feature is ready for wide roll out (although it is still not yet available to every user). Locations Stories revolve around a particular location, like New York City, as pictured below. Located in the Explore tab, right at the top of the user interface, Location Stories give users the power to find interesting content in and around locations.
Like Location Stories, Hashtag Stories work much the same way. “We’re also beginning to introduce hashtag stories on Explore to help you find stories related to your interests. When you search for a hashtag, you may see a story ring at the top of the page filled with stories using that hashtag,” Instagram explains.
The social network states users can participate simply by including a location sticker or a hashtag. However, this does not guarantee content inclusion into either Location Stories or Hashtag Stories. The company also states users can opt-out by tapping on the “X” in their stories viewer lists.
Location Stories on Explore are now available on Android and iOS as part of the version 10.22 native mobile app. Hashtags Stories will come to the platform in the coming weeks.
