Instagram Kills Off Boomerang and Hyperlapse, Deleting them from Apple and Google’s App Stores

Instagram isn’t just shuttering its flailing IGTV, the photo-sharing site is also waving goodbye to both Boomerang and Hyperlapse, too, according to numerous sources, including various Twitter users. Instagram’s latest move has seen the departure of two popular features. Hyperlapse and Boomerang were once stand-alone apps, but now they’re just camera options within Instagram—a decision which makes sense given how these functions can be done through cheaper third-party tools instead for those who want them on their phone or tablet.

With faster smartphones coming out all over in 2022 there wasn’t really any need to retain such bulky software packages anymore when Snapchat Stories/TikTok Reels already offer most things one would need from video editing without needing an entire app. The hardware trend isn’t at all likely to change and as software also improves, there’s less and less need for such dedicated, standalone applications. Moreover, it’s a smart move because it no longer requires jumping from one app to another.
