Starting next week, Instagram shoppable photo tag trials will debut to a limited number of users. The social site, owned by Facebook, is making it easier for twenty retailers, such as JackThreads and Kate Spade, to put their products in-front of mobile Apple iOS users in the United States.

“Mobile has changed the way people shop. You browse products while waiting to be seated for dinner, make purchases on your commute into work, and compare prices online when you’re at a store to see what’s the better deal. In fact, more than 84% of smartphone users in the US browse, research or compare products via a web browser or mobile app,” the company wrote on its official blog.

New Instagram Shoppable Photo Tag Trial Starts Soon

Users will see a “Tap to view products” button in retailer photos, which display in-app details, including price, description, more images, as well as a “Shop Now” button. At this time, Instagram will not earn a percentage of retailer sales, instead, it will monetize the feature through paid post promotions. The company will eventually add a “Save” option so users are able to bookmark products for later.

Instagram boasts 500,000 advertisers and is now earning substantial revenue four years after its acquisition by Facebook for $1 billion. Its parent company will earn approximately $26 billion this year and will likely grow its revenue to more than $30 billion by the end of next year.
