Instagram Stories GIF support rolls out

Users can Now Add GIFs to Instagram Stories Starting Today

Instagram Stories GIF support comes to the social platform, following months of rumors and limited testing for both Android and iOS…

GIFs are everywhere. Last June, Facebook added GIF support to comments. And, Google just redesigned its Gboard app to put its GIF creator tool front-and-center. Now, Instagram is getting into the mix. Starting today, Instagram Stories GIF support rolls out, which includes hundreds of thousands of animated stickers to choose from.

Instagram Stories GIF Support Begins to Roll Out

The new Instagram Stories GIF support comes courtesy of a GIPHY integration. Plus, users can upload images and videos of any file size to Stories, making it unnecessary to crop them to the previously required 9:16 portrait format.

Additionally, Instagram states it’s including image and video support for Stories of any size. After users enable the feature, it’s possible to pinch to resize images and videos to share in their original ratio.

How to Use Instagram GIF Stickers

To use the new Instagram GIF stickers, simply open the app; then do the following:

  1. Create a Story.
  2. Tap the add sticker button at the top.
  3. Select a GIF option to reveal the library.
  4. Choose from trending GIFs or search.

The new Instagram Stories GIF support begins today, starting with version 29 of the mobile app on Android and iOS. The other new feature, which lets users resize images and videos in Stories will become available in the “coming weeks.” For more about the new Instagram Stories GIF support, read the official blog post.
