Instagram Stories Live Video Debuts

Instagram Stories live video rolled out worldwide, taking on Periscope and Snapchat directly, allowing users to live broadcast from mobile devices on-the-go…

Instagram just introduced its newest service, giving users more choice for on-the-spot broadcasting. In a move challenging rivals Periscope and Snapchat, Instagram Stories live video is now available internationally.

Instagram Stories Live Video Launched Globally

“…we’re excited to share that live video on Instagram Stories — a new way to connect with your friends and followers right now — will be rolling out to our entire global community over the next week. From real-time makeup tutorials to live DJ sets, it’s been exciting to watch as the community shares new sides of their lives,” the company wrote on its official blog.

Instagram users can now opt to broadcast live video from their mobile devices. However, the new feature is only available on versions 10.0 or newer. The social media platform first launched Live Stories in the United States last year in November. A “Top Live” listing of the most popular streams broadcasting in real-time accompanied it.

Although Instagram Stories live video is much-like Facebook Live, the latter social network owns Instagram, so it’s an enhancement for user choice. Use between the similar services will provide Facebook with valuable user data about interaction preferences.

To access Instagram Stories live video, simply swipe right on the home page or tap the camera icon located in the upper left corner. Four options appear at the bottom, “Live,” “Normal,” “Boomerang,” and “Hands Free.” Swipe right again or tap on “Live.” A “Start Live Video” queue will appear; tap it to broadcast live. Comments and likes appear during the stream. When the video ends, it is no longer viewable.

In November of last year, Instagram shoppable photo tagging went under testing. While in August 2014, the company introduced trending hashtags and follow suggestions.
