Instagram Stories is trialing a vertical orientation, which look a whole lot like TikTok, as the company tests a different format…
Instagram has rotated Stories, making them vertical. This is something the Meta (Facebook) subsidiary first confirmed back in 2021. It’s currently running a test of the new format in select countries. For those unfamiliar, Instagram Stories is the company’s take on tapping through short stories that can last up to ten seconds, both in a photo or a video. It’s also possible to add a GIF, tag people, apply filters, and more.
Instagram Stories Turn Vertical in New Test to Clone TikTok
The new Instagram Stories vertical orientation is quite similar to TikTok but there are differences. For example, going to the next or returning to the previous story requires tapping on the left or right in certain areas of the story in order to do these actions. This could be problematic as some tags placed in a story may overlap, so people may skip a story when they actually wanted to tap on the tagged person or place in question.
Right now, it’s not known how long the trial run will last. But if the experiment produces positive results, Instagram is highly likely to roll it out globally to everyone.
