Instagram Stories Type feature is relatively new, previously only in testing in Japan, but users in other markets are beginning to see it…
Instagram Stories are hugely popular. In fact, the Snapchat clone claims 300 million DAUs or daily active users. That’s nearly twice as many as Snapchat, which only has 173 million DAUs. Now, Instagram is giving Stories more functionality. Simply called ‘Type,’ the option works just like its namesake.
Instagram Stories ‘Type’ Feature Testing Spotted
The social service realizes that sometimes, a video or image isn’t enough to get the whole message across. So, it introduced Instagram Stories Type back in December to users in Japan. But now, it’s appearing in Europe to some users.
Type resides alongside at the bottom of the Stories camera. It’s positioned next to other familiar choices, including Boomerang and Rewind. Users can choose from various fonts and Instagram automatically selects a plain background or a gradient. Also, users are free to upload their own image to serve as a background. However, Instagram automatically applies a filter to make the text more conspicuous.
Not only is Instagram testing Type, it’s also working on another feature. This is a notification, sent whenever someone takes a screenshot of another person’s story. WABetaInfo spotted this one.
It’s a type of plagiarism warning, as pictured above. This allows someone else to take a screenshot of another user’s story once before sending a notification to the creator the second time.
