Instagram Take a Break Time Out Tool Test Begins

Instagram Says it’s Testing a New ‘Take a Break’ Feature — but it’s Really a Recycled Tool

Instagram is experimenting with a new wellness tool called “Take a Break,” a user opt-in control that sets reminders to limit screen time…

Instagram boasts over 1 billion users around the globe. It’s by far one of the most popular Facebook subsidiaries in the social media world. In order to avoid the ire of governmental agencies and critics alike, Instagram has rolled out a series of tools aimed at promoting digital wellbeing. For instance, YouTube removed dislike counts, after Instagram removed dislike counts from public view. Now, the social site is testing  a new feature called “Take a Break.”

Instagram Take a Break Time Out Tool Test Begins (Again)

Instagram’s Take a Break tool is an option, meaning users must enable it on their own. When toggled on, it automatically sends reminders, alerting users to take short breaks. The duration is also chosen by the user. Additionally, Instagram provides expert tips for things to occupy the time. However, this isn’t exactly a new feature. Both Instagram and its parent company already have time-management apps. When those options first debuted, Facebook wrote at the time:

“We want the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram to be intentional, positive and inspiring. Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms.”
