Yelp has refreshed its mobile app again, with a big shift in focus on users’ preferences and other types of needs, including dietary, too…
While Google and Facebook continue their push into local destination information, Yelp remains a serious competitor — though it’s most definitely losing market share. (This spring, the company had to furlough over 1,100 workers, lay off about 1,000, and cut executive pay between 20 and 30% in order to stay in operation.) But, it’s managed to stay in business and now, it’s pushing out a new update that puts its focus on user preferences.
Latest Yelp Redesign Puts more Focus on User Preferences
The most recent Yelp makeover brings a more personalized experience to its Android app. Now, users can set preferences such as dietary requirements, favorite food fare, family-friendly places, as well as pet-friendly destinations, and more. There are even additional options to make the app suit individual tastes and needs. New users will be asked a number of questions during their initial set up, while existing users can set customizations, too. (Just go to the “me” tab to add preferences.)
Yelp says it will adjust recommendations based on businesses that are close by and open at the time of search. Though, the company hasn’t provided a time-frame for when this tool will go live.
