LinkedIn Introduces GIFs for Message Conversations

LinkedIn Messaging GIFs are rolling out to Android and iOS, becoming available worldwide over the coming weeks to all members…

Professional networking site LinkedIn is now making GIFs available through its mobile app, the company announced. The company explains these familiar animations are “second nature” for today’s communications. Arpit Dhariwal, Principal Product Manager at LinkedIn says the platform has teamed up with Tenor to integrate GIFs into its messaging client.

This allows members to quickly insert animations right into conversations to supplement text, images, and more. LinkedIn states 7 in 10 Americans use GIFs, emojis, and other visuals in everyday conversations, so it’s become normalized for just about all communications.

The professional networking site says it’s a good practice to ensure using these animations are acceptable in specific workplaces. Dhariwal also writes:

“The GIFs available through Tenor’s GIF search engine give you countless ways to add some personality to your conversations and express your point of view in an impactful way.”

GIF support is now rolling out across the platform and will become available to all users in the coming weeks. LinkedIn did not state if the function will also be available on the web for the desktop UI.
