Cortana now reads Outlook emails aloud on iOS

Microsoft’s Virtual Assistant Cortana can Now Read Outlook Email Aloud on iOS, with Android Support Coming Soon

Microsoft’s digital assistant, Cortana, can now read Outlook email out loud to iOS users, with Android to follow in the not-too-distant future…

While Google Assistant, Apple Siri, and Amazon Echo are the most popular virtual assistants, Microsoft hasn’t given up on its own, Cortana. In fact, the software giant has introduced a new feature for Cortana — the ability to read Outlook email aloud on iOS.

It’s appropriately called “Play My Emails” and it works through the Outlook app on iOS devices. (The same functionality will come to Android devices in next year.)

Play My Emails is accessible thought the hamburger menu — the three horizontal lines — or by asking Cortana.

Once enabled, it gives users an overview of the messages in their inboxes and also alerts to any changes in daily schedules. There’s also a bunch of other functions, such as marking as read, dismissing, asking about other recipients, and more.

Microsoft Office 365 explains it this way:

“Use the new Play My Emails feature on the go to get time back in your day. In the Outlook mobile app you can stay connected to what’s most important with an intelligent experience for reading new email in your focused inbox. Let Cortana read text out loud from your messages on your daily commute so you can spend more time doing the things and with the people you care most about.”
