Microsoft Pulls its Cortana Android and iOS from the Google and Apple App Stores

Microsoft Cortana’s journey is coming to an end as the software giant removes support for the assistant from its Android and iOS applications…

Microsoft has shut down its Cortana app for both iOS and Android. This represents the latest move to end support for the digital assistant across multiple devices. (Even Microsoft’s own Surface headphones.) The Android and iOS Cortana apps have been removed from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. However, anything created through the assistant is still available on Cortana on Windows.

Microsoft Shuts Down Cortana Android and iOS Support

Microsoft first introduced its Cortana Android and iOS apps in December of 2015. Originally, it was supposed to serve as an alternative to competitors like Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri. But, it never gained the functionality of its rivals and therefore, never caught on with the public. Microsoft went so far as to completely overhaul the assistant, but to no avail. Microsoft writes in a support note:

“As of March 31, 2021, the Cortana content you created–such as reminders and lists–will no longer function in the Cortana mobile app, but can still be accessed through Cortana in Windows.”
