Netflix is running a worldwide experiment on its Android platform that allows subscribers to set a predetermined viewing timing period…
Streaming giant Netflix has rolled out a global test for Android that lets viewers pick a watch timer that automatically shuts off media. There are four settings: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or end of whatever people are watching. Once the time expires, the Netflix app stops, which should help to conserve battery life and might also help people fall asleep without being disturbed by video noise.
Netflix is Testing a New Timer Tool on its Android App
Right now, the option is only available to a select group of subscribers in certain markets. But, the company has plans to bring the tool to other devices, including televisions and the desktop interface, as well. (However, its expansion depends on how well the test goes and if those with access like it or not.) To use the new Netflix timer on Android, just open the app, tap the timer in the upper right corner, and select an option.
At this time, the tool is only available on adult-set profiles — though it would probably be a great option to bring to children’s profiles. Of course, this being a test means the feature may or may not become a permanent part of the Netflix UI.
