Netflix Testing a New Way to Suggest Titles when Subscribers don’t Know What to Watch

Popular streaming service Netflix has found a new way to keep subscribers watching. The company is testing a shuffle tool, which suggests titles to viewers.

Netflix Shuffle Test Underway, Streaming Service Confirms

The new Netflix shuffle test includes such titles as The OfficeNew GirlOur PlanetArrested Development, and others.

It’s a clever way to break the mold. Currently, people jump onto a streaming service, only to get lost in a sea of options. But, this helps to eliminate or limit the hunt.

The new shuffle feature simply suggests popular titles and selecting one plays a random episode. In fact, the section is titled “Play a Random Episode.”

It’s akin to classic television series episodes being syndicated on cable.

Netflix confirms the test, telling TechCrunch the following:

“We are testing the ability for members to play a random episode from different TV series on the Android mobile app. These tests typically vary in length of time and by region, and may not become permanent.”

Netflix continues to experiment with ways to get its subscribers to start streaming content faster after logging into the service. This is one reason it auto-runs trailers, for instance.
