Disney Plus boasts a new tool that lets subscribers watch together without having to be in the same space, aptly named GroupWatch…
A couple of weeks ago, Disney started testing a group watch feature with a limited set of Disney+ subscribers. Now, it’s going live across the United States. The option works similarly to Amazon Prime Video’s watch party function. With Disney+ GroupWatch, up to seven individuals can join in an enjoy movies and series episodes simultaneously. (Of course, everyone must have an active Disney+ account in order to use it.)
New Disney Plus GroupWatch Option Now Rolling Out in the US
The new Disney+ GroupWatch is available on several platforms, including the web, mobile app, smart TVs, as well as connected devices like Roku and Amazon Fire TV. To make it more interactive, Disney+ offers viewers the ability to react to scenes with six different emoji. Those animation characters include like, funny, sad, angry, scared, and surprised. Disney explains in a statement:
“…in this moment when many are still apart from their friends and family, GroupWatch offers a way to safely connect virtually by co-viewing.”
There’s no only emoji, Disney gives viewers the power to control playback with pause, fast-forward, and rewind, too. With this new set of options, it’s clear that Disney is doing what it takes to make Disney+ a true streaming market share competitor among its rivals.
