New Facebook Location Frames Mimic Snapchat Geofilters

New Facebook location frames look much like the Snapchat geofilters, currently under testing in Ireland, might roll out more widely next year…

A new image feature in the test phase in Ireland, is Facebook “location frames.” This won’t appear on U.S. consumers’ Facebook app before Christmas but might come in the new year.

The photo feature bears a striking resemblance to Snapchat geofilters. It allows users to take pictures and privately share them with family and friends in a separate messaging space residing in Facebook. Plus, add geo-filter like “location frames.”

There’s already an ability to augment images and videos alike with text, doodles, AI-powered filters, as well as animated face masks. The new additions are rolling out under Facebook’s newly created Camera Effects Platform. The new in-app camera appeared earlier this year.

Facebook is currently dealing with a fake news controversy and is using technology to combat the problem. Just last week, the company denied its native app and Messenger app spread ransomware.

Early in November, Facebook started a trial run with a job openings tab to take market share from rival LinkedIn. Experts expect the social media network to earn nearly $26 billion in ad revenue by the end of the year. It’s also projected to earn in excess of $30 billion by the end of next year.
