Facebook could soon give its users more control over their in-app experience with a way to disable those ever-present notification dots…
One of the first things people see when they open the Facebook app are red-colored, numbered dots along the top tabs. These exist solely to make users take immediate action, checking various sections of the platform, including Groups, Watch, and Profile. Now, that annoyance might soon be a thing of the past.
New Facebook Test lets Participants Turn Off In-App Notification Badges
A new test gives users the ability to turn off those notification dots or badges. Spotted by app researcher and reverse-engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong, the experiment provides more granular control.
According to TechCrunch, this is a global test for both iOS and Android:
“We are testing new ways to give people more control over the notifications they receive in the Facebook app.”
It’s a way to make the app experience less overstimulating. And, give people a little less FOMO anxiety.
