Google is bringing more voice and language options to its Assistant in markets outside the United States, starting today…
Previously, Google Assistant offered eleven English voice varieties in the United States. But, markets outside the country didn’t have many choices. That’s changing, as Google is adding nine more languages.
New Google Assistant Voices going Live
The options are already going live, bringing second voices in French, German, Dutch, Japanese, Norwegian, Korean, Italian, and English for India and the United Kingdom.
Google created the new voices with WaveNet by DeepMind technology to make them sound more natural. Google claims the voices will sound like native speakers.
The new voices are color-coded, available in orange and red:
“We’re also trying to help more people experiment with the different voices too. If you live in one of the countries that’s getting a new voice, you’ll notice that we randomly assign you a voice when you first set up your Assistant, giving you a 50/50 chance of getting one of two voices—either the ‘red’ voice or the ‘orange’ voice. “
