Google Plus Android app

Surprise! The Google+ Bust Drama isn’t Over Yet

A newly rebuilt Google Plus Android app will roll out to fans in the next several days but the search giant provides little information about its changes…

Who remembers or actually still uses Google+? Introduced in June 2011, the service never exactly caught-on with the public at-large. Although, estimates peg its current usage at about 111 million active users.

The platform has gone through various cycles, including a topics feature which debuted in April of last year. Prior to that, the search company sought testers to help improve the site.

New Google Plus Android App Coming Soon

Now, the social network is getting a new mobile app, according to a post by Leo Deegan. Deegan explains there is a newly built version of the Google Plus Android app. And, it won’t exactly look much different. Apparently, the changes are mostly under-the-hood. It’s probably bringing the native app more inline with Google’s latest standards. However, it is known the new app is faster.

“During the rewrite, we were able to build in some subtle updates. For instance, stream rendering and scrolling have been improved, the photo lightbox has been redesigned, comment options slide up from a bottom sheet, and grey-spammed comments are now viewable by post authors. Since this is a rewrite, there are a few known issues that we’re working through. For instance, leaving a comment on a post causes a full refresh of the post to include your comment. Take it for a spin if you get the chance, and we hope you don’t mind the dust.”

There’s still quite a bit that’s unknown at this time. But, the updated app will become available in the next several days, Deegan says.
