The new filters are quite close to those rival Snapchat features but these options work with Boomerang so users can “easily add an unexpected twist to what you share!” Once users finish recording, they can send it to followers through Instagram Direct or add it to Instagram Stories.

Other new creative tools include “Rewind,” a new camera option which plays video in reverse. Hashtag stickers are also available, as well as text hashtags. Additionally, a new eraser brush resides in the drawing tools section.
Here’s Instagram’s official step-by-step guide for how to use face filters for photos and videos, quoted directly from its help page:
- Tap in the top left of the screen or swipe right from anywhere in feed.
- Tap then select a filter at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap to take a photo or tap and hold to take a video. When using the front or back-facing camera, the filter you choose will automatically appear on the closest person’s face.
Face filters also work while using Boomerang, Hands-Free and Rewind camera formats, and some filters work with two faces at once.
Support for Instagram states face filters are on version 10.21 for Android and iOS. However, the features might not work on older mobile devices.
