New Instagram Safety Tools and Programs Roll Out
Among the new tools are comment controls. For accounts set to public, these users can now decide who can comment on their posts. Also, whether an account is public or private, users can block others from commenting. The company states it first launched a filter to block certain offensive comments in English. Now, it’s expanding that capability to Arabic, French, German and Portuguese.
Furthermore, to better Instagram safety, the company now facilitates anonymous live video reporting. Viewers can alert the platform is someone in the video is in trouble. Or, appears to be going through a difficult time. The person sees a help message with options to phone a helpline, reach out to friends, or get support. Instagram says it has teams working 24 hour per day, 7 days a week, and they are global.
The company is also beginning a #KindComments campaign. Instagram states it will create colorful wall murals around the world. Additionally, a new kindness-themed heart-shaped sticker is now available.
Instagram just hit 800 million users and it currently claims 500 million DAUs or daily active users.
