Instagram introduces a new security tool to assist users victimized by hacks to recover and secure their accounts for continued use…
Instagram just introduced a new feature to help its users recover from hacked accounts. Appropriately called “Security Checkup,” the tool will prompt victims to check their recent login activity, review profile information, and update contact information to help recover their accounts. Interestingly enough, the feature won’t recommend is adding two-factor authentication (2FA) to your account, but that’s something Instagram says it “strongly” recommends.
New Instagram Security Checkup Helps Users Secure Hacked Accounts
The company says that will allow users in some countries to verify their identity with their WhatsApp number, but this won’t roll out for a few weeks. The Facebook subsidiary states that it’s making the tool available because it’s experienced an increase in malicious activity, such as phishing and other nefarious means. Instagram writes in a blog post:
“Security Checkup will guide people, whose accounts may have been hacked, through the steps needed to secure them. This includes checking login activity, reviewing profile information, confirming the accounts that share login information and updating account recovery contact information such as phone number or email.”
