Debuting in a limited number of cities, a new Snapchat content search option comes to the social media app, to bolster user engagement on the platform…
A new Snapchat content search option rolls out on the platform, but only available to select cities for now. Snapchat, a popular video sharing app, is unlike its social media competitors. Snapchat revolves around staying in-touch with people users personally know, rather than a large group of followers. However, with this new feature, the platform is expanding its capabilities.
New Snapchat Content Search Option Testing in Select Cities
With the Snapchat content search option, users can find content by keyword, location, and various search categories. The option is an extension of the Our Story feature (an option to include a public story). Stories first launched in October 2013, evolving from a, “singular, personal perspectives to include collective narratives created by our entire community with Snaps submitted to Our Story and curated by our team,” the company explains.
The company uses advanced machine learning to create new Stories via Snaps uploaded to Our Stories. As a result, over one million unique Stories are available on the platform.
With the new feature, users are able to, “watch a local basketball game, check out the scene at your favorite bar, view your favorite Fashion Week shows, get inspired by a faraway place, or simply tap through a Story full of puppies,” and much more.
Snapchat uses algorithms to scan caption text, along with visual, time, and location elements. Using this data, found within Snaps submitted to Our Stories, the company can group videos by theme or category.
