Newton Mail gets another chance to make an impression, after it has already been set into obscurity twice over the past few years…
There’s been few other email applications which deliver on functionality like Newton Mail. But, despite its innovation and likability, it’s already suffered two deaths. Now, after the second demise, it’s back yet again, this time, saved by a couple of loyal user fans who just couldn’t let it go.
Newton Mail App Revived Again
Developed by CloudMagic, Inc., Newton is an email application management tool that’s supported on iOS, Android, MacOS, Windows, and Chrome OS. It works in conjunction with Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, Outlook.com, iCloud, Google Apps, Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Mail.com, GMX, AOL, and IMAP accounts.
Although it initially attracted a number of loyal users, it couldn’t turn a profit. It shut down in 2018, immediately following a very unpopular price hike. Then, the Essential company, by Andy Rubin, tried to bring it back to life in 2019, though that ultimately failed. Now, two people, Maitrik Kataria and Justin Mitchell are making a third go of it.
The new owners write in a post published on Medium:
“After a rollercoaster of a bidding process, we were lucky enough to be chosen as the new owners of CloudMagic. This wasn’t easy for us. We aren’t a well funded VC backed company. Nor are we a big corporation looking to acquire assets we can use. We are just an indie app development agency that loves building products.”
