A tweaked version of the Google Feed search bar is now appearing to some users running Android 8.1 Oreo on their mobile devices…
The Pixel Launcher contains a special version of the Google Feed app. It includes a minimal search bar, Upcoming shortcut, along with a transparent design which supports the dark theme. It now appears Google is running a test, featuring a modified Google Feed search bar on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Revamped Google Feed Search Bar Test Spotted
Several users have reported seeing the redesign. It places a rounded Google Feed search bar to the left, with the Upcoming shortcut to the right, along with the overflow menu. Here are a couple of screenshots showing the changes:
As pictured, the Home button, search shortcut, and Recent shortcut, and hamburger menu are no longer visible. Additionally, the categories shortcuts don’t appear. Here’s a screenshot of the current Google Feed app for reference:
The new experience is more consistent with search bars found throughout the launcher.
The Google Feed has undergone a number of changes over the past several months. In July of last year, the search giant reintroduced its flagship mobile app, which boasts a more personal feel with better controls. Then, in November, it changed the UI or user interface to display round cards and included more buttons.
