Snapchat Users can Now Build Custom Face Filters

Snapchat custom face filters are now available to creators through the Lens Studio, which now supports Giphy integration…

Snapchat just expanded its developer program to let creators build face filters with seven new templates. The move comes four months after Snap, Inc. introduced its Lens Studio platform. The new templates include virtual baseball hats, face paint, as well as more tools to place three-dimensional objects on users’ heads.

Snapchat Custom Face Filters now Available

The new Snapchat custom face filters are joined by a Giphy integration in the Lens Studio. Back in February, Snapchat started allowing users to insert GIFs into snaps. Now, the animations are supported in lenses, as well.

In the developer phase, users created over 30,000 lenses within the first two months. Those earned more than 1 billion views. “We’re blown away by the participation, the level of engagement, and the type of creativity that has happened,” said Eitan Pilipski, who runs the camera platform at Snap, in an interview.

Creators can build a face filter in about 5 minutes. Once uploaded, the company generates a Snapcode, along with a deep link. Thereafter, when tapped, it remains on the platform for 24 hours.  However, the generated code lives for a year, which means creators can re-use it multiple times. Plus, the code can be sent to others.

Snap likewise announced its Official Creator Program which rewards top creators with extra promotion, tech support, and early access to features and templates.
