Social Captain Social Media Boosting Service Exposed Thousands of Users’ Instagram Passwords
According to news reports, Social Captain, a company that bills itself as an effective way to increase Instagram followers, left thousands of users’ Instagram passwords exposed.
More specifically, TechCrunch has learned that Social Captain was storing passwords of linked Instagram accounts in unencrypted plaintext.
Worse still, is the fact that the company’s website contained a bug that let anyone gain access to any of Social Captain’s users’ profiles — without even having to log into the site.
All that was necessary was any users’ unique account ID and anyone could get into someone else’s Social Captain account. Plus, it would allow the intruder to view the victim’s login credentials.
Since the discovery, Social Captain has been notified and has fixed the problem.
