Spotify is about to introduce a new fundraising feature for musicians to help them during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as their crews…
The toll of the COVID-19 outbreak and ensuing economic shutdown still isn’t fully known but its effects are already being felt by many. To help out, Spotify is about to add a new way for musicians to bring in more money. The tool sits right on artists’ profile pages, right next to Artist’s Picks.
Spofity Musician Profile Fundraising Links Added
The new Spotify musician profile fundraising link currently supports Cash App, GoFundMe, and PayPal.me. Also, the streaming service has partnered up with Cash App, so entertainers in the US and UK can link their Cash App username to collect donations. Those who do so and receive money will receive an additional $1000 from a pool of $1 million. (This adds up to 10,000 artists who will get the extra support.)
“Given the urgency and impact of the COVID-19 crisis, we’re working as quickly as we can to develop this new product and get it out to as many artists as possible. However, we’ve never built a fundraising feature like this before. We consider this a first version that will evolve as we learn how to make it as helpful as possible for the music community.”
The new Spotify musician fundraising link is already showing up on mobile but isn’t appearing on desktop.
