Spotify Tests TikTok Style Vertical Feed for Discovering New Music

Yes, Spotify is Experimenting with a TikTok-Like Vertical Feed for New Music Discoveries

Spotify is testing a new section called Discover, which allows listeners to like or skip new music tracks in a TikTik-styled vertical video feed…

Spotify, one of the most popular music streaming platforms, is trialing a new option called Discover. It’s currently known to run on the company’s beta iOS TestFlight build, appearing as a fourth icon on the toolbar. Discover surfaces new music suggestions through an intuitive feed users can navigate by swiping on and down. It includes a heart for liking songs and a three-dot menu that contains information about the suggested songs.

Spotify’s new Discover feature looks like it’s built on the company’s Canvas format, which allows artists to create videos to accompany their tracks. Canvas media includes 2D and 3D graphics, along with a variety of other media. This replaces the static album art, which Spotify says significantly boosts key engagement metrics, such as sharing, adding to playlists, and visiting artists’ profile pages. Spotify tells TechCrunch:

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We don’t have any further news to share at this time.”
