Telegram, the cloud-based messaging app, now has more than half a billion downloads from the Google Play Store, six years after its public release…
A good portion of mobile apps that reach — and exceed — half a billion installs are those which already come pre-installed on big manufacturers’ devices. But, there are most definitely programs that don’t have the same advantage. And, Telegram, the popular messaging app, is one of them. Regardless of this deficit, it’s now been downloaded over 500 million times.
Telegram App Google Play Store Downloads Exceed 500 Million
Telegram, which allows its users to send text, photos, videos, stickers, and even audio and other files, now claims more than 500 million Google Play Store installations. (This is even more remarkable, given it’s also available on iOS, Windows Phone, Windows, macOS, as well as Linux.)
First introduced in August of 2013, Telegram relies on a client-side, open source code. However, it keeps its serve-side code closed off and proprietary. (The service also supplies APIs to independent developers for even more innovation.)
Telegram broke the 400 million mark back in April of this year — so it’s added 100 million+ since that time. And, estimates place daily downloads from new users at an impressive 1.5 million people per diem.
