Telegram, which was initially released about six years ago, now boasts an impressive 400 million monthly active users, with more joining regularly…
Cloud-based instant messaging and voice over IP service Telegram now has just over 33.3 percent more active monthly users than it did last October when it had 300 million. It’s reached 400 million MAUs since its launch in the mid-August of 2014 and is adding more at a strong rate.
Telegram Messaging App Reaches 400 Million Monthly Active Users
Telegram — founded by Pavel Durov — who is the creator of the Russian social network known is VK, says about 1.5 million people join each day. And, that the Telegram app is the most downloaded social application in more than 20 countries. (This, despite the fact the app is banned in China, one of the largest tech markets on the planet.)
Though substantial, this is far behind its biggest competitor, which boasts the largest market share, Facebook subsidiary WhatsApp, which claims over 2 billion users around the world.
However, Telegram has long attempted to differentiate itself and is in the process of working on a new secure video call feature to its platform. This comes at a time when other companies, like Zoom, have suffered from security and privacy lapses — such as Zoombombing — the practice of strangers breaking into private chat sessions.
