Twitch is super-popular and that’s evidenced by its numbers, with the streaming platform streaming over twice the amount of hours in a year…
Twitch has most definitely carved out a niche. Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet have determined viewership of the entertainment portal more than doubled from 3.1 billion hours in the first quarter of 2020 to 6.3 billion hours in the same quarter in 2021. Moreover, there’s already been a 16.5% jump from the previous quarter, or Q4 of 2020. Of course, these figures are largely attributable to the lock-downs across the globe.
Twitch Watchtime more than Doubled Over the Last Year
Although Twitch greatly benefited from the shut-downs, others didn’t enjoy such a huge leap. For instance, YouTube Gaming did surge during the pandemic but suffered an enormous drop off in the first quarter of the new year — at a lost of 1.37 billion hours. Facebook saw a modest climb in its viewership, though it remained the third of the top three, with a rise to 1.06 billion hours. Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet write in their report:
“The [Twitch] platform experienced the largest increase in hours streamed since the start of the pandemic. For the second quarter in a row, Twitch has broken its record the most-watched hours in one quarter. Facebook Gaming also experienced a record-setting quarter, and YouTube Gaming streamer, Valkyrae, was the most-watched female streamer of 2021 so far.”
