Twitter has announced that it is retiring its social media dashboard app, TweetDeck for Mac, effective Friday, July 1st…
Twitter’s not-so-popular social media dashboard platform, TweetDeck for Mac, will be sunset on Friday, July 1st. The microblog is shuttering the app, pushing users over to the web. It brings a long era to a close, which began back in 2011, when Twitter acquired the tool for $40 million. However, the company never really developed the software to its fullest potential.
Twitter is Shutting Down TweetDeck for Mac
Twitter largely neglected the product for quite some time. In fact, years passed without any significant improvements. The Mac version isn’t the first to face cancellation. The microblog shut down the TweetDeck mobile client in 2013 and discontinued support for Windows just three years later, in 2016. Then, shortly thereafter, in 2018 the Twitter for Mac native app shut down, making a brief comeback as Mac Catalyst.
We’re saying goodbye to TweetDeck for the Mac app to focus on making TweetDeck even better and testing our new Preview. July 1 is the last day it’ll be available.
You can still use TweetDeck on web and more invites to try the Preview will be rolling out over the next few months!
