Social microblog Twitter grew to 330 million monthly users, up from 321 million the previous quarter. However, this number is still less than it peak figure of 336 million for the same quarter in 2018.
Twitter Q1 Revenue Surpasses Estimates but MAUs Drop
Twitter posted a revenue of $787 million, which beat estimates of $776.1 million. The company also reported 134 million average mDAUs or monetizable daily active users for the first quarter, compared to 120 million for the same time last year. (Smaller than the fourth quarter of last year, when its mDUAs stood at 126 million.)
By comparison, Facebook claimed 1.5 billion daily users at the end of 2018. The world’s largest social network added 28 million users in Q4 of last year. Meanwhile, subsidiary Instagram boasts 500 million people viewing stories every day. Snapchat had 186 million daily users at the end of 2018.
A year ago, Twitter posted revenues of $665 million. The company’s operating income also rose from $74 million during Q1 of 2018 to $94 million for this quarter.
