Bug Causing New Google Assistant to Disappear from Pixel 4 and 5 Devices

Pixel 4 and 5 Phones Afflicted by Bug that Causes the New Google Assistant to Disappear

Google Assistant is dropping off several Google Pixel phone models, including the 4, 4a, 4a, 5G, and 5, apparently due to a server-side bug…

Google released a new version of its Assistant. The most recent iteration consists of a transparent, compact user interface. Plus, it offers a faster response, thanks to its on-device processing. The new experience is available on Google’s newer Pixel devices, including the 4 and 5 lines. But, for some reason, it is disappearing without warning and/or malfunctioning by reverting to an older version.

What’s happening, when activated, rather than displaying its new minimal UI with a four-color light bar, a big, solid panel appears — one that’s just like every other Android device. Meanwhile, voice recognition is also affected. It’s much slower than previous performance, particularly when compared to the on-device NGA. Additionally, Continued Conversation vanishes altogether.

It’s a curious phenomenon but one that’s seemingly coming from a server-side bug. Hopefully, Google is aware of these issues and is working to resolve the problems Pixel owners are experiencing with Assistant.
