That’s right. WhatsApp, long-planning to open new revenue streams, is looking at one particular and peculiar place to earn some money. For some time, the company has been working on ways to monetize its platform. To that end, it’s introducing a programming kit for businesses which makes it easier to use the app for customer messaging and support.
It’s a great way for people to learn more about certain products and service on-the-fly. And, since WhatsApp claims over 1.5 billion active users, its makes sense to create various forms of revenue through different services.

But, that business-related programming kit isn’t free. The company will charge a “fixed rate” to notifications passing through it and more. However, it doesn’t stop there. More interestingly, it’s also going to charge businesses if they don’t respond within 24 hours. This certainly is an inventive way to earn extra revenue while promoting good customer experience.
Of course, this means businesses are incentivized to responding to queries in a timely manner. If they don’t a fee is charged. Since WhatsApp hasn’t proved a cash cow for parent company Facebook, this is a clever way to bring in a little cash while not imposing on everyday users. (The company dropped its $1 annual fee two years ago, in 2016.)
