WhatsApp Text Updates get Facebook-Like Color Background

A newly introduced WhatsApp text status background color feature comes to the Facebook-owned platform, allowing users to choose a font, as well…

WhatsApp just announced it’s adding a color background option to text statuses. Also, the company is adding the ability for users to select a font.

New WhatsApp Text Update Color Background Option Rolls Out

The feature somewhat mimics the now familiar Facebook status update background colors, which the social network introduced December of last year.

“Now you never have to worry about getting the word out to all your family and friends. Whether you’re looking for vacation recommendations or notifying a group about the address for a party, the text-based status feature allows you to update your contacts in a fun and personal way,” a spokesperson told The Next Web.

Android and iOS users now have the option to insert a background color and/or select a certain font. Also, mock ups of the feature in action show it supports links. The new features started rolling out yesterday and it’s also available on the web client.

WhatsApp just hit 1 billion DAUs or daily active users at the end of last month. That’s largely thanks to WhatsApp Status, a Snapchat Stories clone.
