WhatsApp already has a dark theme for its mobile application but not for its web app or desktop, and that might soon change…
It took quite some time for WhatsApp to bring a dark mode option to its mobile app — which finally rolled out earlier this year. Now, it looks like the Facebook messaging subsidiary is working to introduce a dark theme to its web application and to its desktop site.
WhatsApp Web and Desktop Dark Mode in the Works
Recently, a tipster alerted WABetaInfo to the fact that the team working for the messaging service is developing on a dark mode for both WhatsApp Web and the desktop UI.
The option is conspicuously absent from those two platform, particularly because it’s already released the feature for mobile. Now, it is likely coming to other environments but won’t exactly match the mobile application.
Dark themes have become popular among users since they significantly reduce eye-strain and help to save batter life on mobile devices. It’s also good for larger machines, especially in low-light situations when white glare is too blinding.
Right now, dark mode for WhatsApp Web and desktop isn’t publicly available. So, it could take considerable time to make it way out to the next platforms.
