Yahoo Groups Members' Data Download Deadline Extended

Yahoo giving Groups Members more Time to Download their Data before it Disappears Forever

Yahoo will now delete all Groups data on January 31st, moving up the previous deadline of December 14th by several weeks…

Yahoo is giving its Groups members a small reprieve. The internet company previously announced it would shutter access and clean all data from Yahoo groups in mid December. Now, the deadline for members to download their information has been extended to January 31st, 11:59PM PST. Thereafter, all of Groups will go into the ultimate digital dustbin.

Several archival groups have expressed interest in storing the content for posterity. Up till now, Verizon Media, which owns Yahoo, has banned 128 archival services from taking action, citing violations of its terms of use.

However, members of Yahoo groups still have approximately 7 weeks to download their data.

Yahoo Groups Members’ Data Download Deadline Extended to January 31st

Originally, back in October, the internet conglomerate announced it would shut down groups but still allow limited access to members.

People could still browse through the Groups directory, even request to be invited to a group. Additionally, current members can also email their Groups. But, much of that has changed since the initial announcement a couple of months ago.

Here’s the list of what Yahoo will take down:

  • Files
  • Polls
  • Links
  • Photos
  • Folders
  • Calendar
  • Database
  • Attachments
  • Conversations
  • Email Updates
  • Message Digest
  • Message History
