YouTube Kids Expands Access to Some Smart TVs

The YouTube Kids app debuted back in 2015 and began creating original programming earlier this year and is now expanding to play on some smart TVs…

The YouTube Kids app launched two years ago and now, it’s going to expand to a few smart televisions, complete with its original programming. Currently, the YouTube Kids app boasts over 30 billion views and more than 8 million weekly active viewers.

YouTube Kids Now Available on Some Smart TVs with Original Programming

The company just announced it’s bringing the mobile phone and tablet application to LG, Samsung, and Sony smart TVs in 26 countries. Those twenty-six countries are also the one where the app is already available.

The official blog announces, in-part, “The YouTube Kids app will be available on the following television sets: all 2015 – 2017 LG webOS TVs via the LG content store, all 2013 – 2017 Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-Ray Players that have access to the Samsung App Store, and after a firmware update on 2016-2017 Sony TVs (with the exception of Android TV, which will be available soon). Happy viewing from our family to yours!”

The move is a savvy one, considering more children and adults consume an increasing share of video content on streaming devices. Legacy appointment television programming continues to suffer because of this trend.

“The YouTube Kids app is the first Google product built from the ground up with kids in mind. The app makes it easier for kids to find videos on topics they want to explore. Whether it’s searching for science experiments, watching a favorite cartoon, or simply watching your favorite creator’s new videos, there is something for everyone!”

Recently, YouTube TV launched in select cities to challenge rival services such as DIRECTV, Sling TV, and more.
