YouTube Personalized Order subscription feed

YouTube Now Experimenting with Users’ Subscription Feeds

An experimental YouTube Personalized Order subscription feed is currently in the works, the video hosting site confirms after user complaints…

YouTube is the king of video hosting. And, with such a massive content library, curating those clips is a daunting task. It’s a colossal undertaking to show millions of users personalized content suggestions. Plus, serve up the best subscription uploads in an interesting way.

YouTube Personalized Order Subscription Feed Experiment Underway

Yesterday, a YouTube user took to Twitter to ask why subscription videos are no longer in chronological order. Team YouTube answered, “We are currently experimenting with how to show content in the subs feed. We find that some viewers are able to more easily find the videos they want to watch when we order the subs feed in a personalized order vs always showing most recent video first.”

This explanation likely means YouTube is employing an algorithm to determine which subscription videos users would most want to see. Of course, this is odd given there are other sections where YouTube already displays videos it believes are most interesting to individual users. Those include the home page and the trending section.

Many users have complained about abandoning the chronological timeline, just like when Facebook and Instagram made the same move. Some suggestions are to make the algorithm choice optional. Others commented algorithmic feeds just don’t deliver the best experience.
