Spotify Testing New Standalone App that Streams Playlists

A new, free-of-charge Spotify standalone app Stations just rolled out in Australia where users can listen to playlists on an ad-supported platform…

Spotify just introduced what it calls an “experiment” in streaming music. Limited to Australia, the new Spotify standalone app ‘Stations’ is available to Android. So, at this time, it’s unknown if the app will roll out to other countries or to iOS.

Spotify Standalone App ‘Stations’ Launches for Streaming Playlists

Although it’s free, the app is ad-supported. It appears designed to help users stream playlists with minimal effort. Rather than searching for artists and tracks, users simply choose from playlists labeled by genre. This is simply done through swiping from one playlist to another. Moreover, Release Radar and Discover Weekly are also included.

Liking songs unlocks personalized experiences. But, users cannot skip tracks or create their own custom playlists presently. (Not eve Premium subscribers can skip songs.) Spotify states Stations begins playing music the moment users open the app. However, users can customize which playlists appear in the main menu. Plus, users can also hide playlists.
